§ 01 · Why it's hard
Studying Indian law is mostly a reading problem
Not a comprehension problem. The material is enormous, it moves, and almost none of it is written for the language you think in.
A hundred pages for one holding
Judgments bury the ratio in procedural history. Finding it is the skill; reading all of it is just time.
No way to know if it still stands
A case in your textbook may have been overruled since it was printed. Nothing in the book tells you.
Everything assumes English
If your college teaches in Hindi, Bengali or Tamil, the standard resources make you translate before you can even start.
§ 02 · Read
Open a judgment and ask it questions.
Pull up any Act or judgment and chat with it directly — what the ratio is, which section governs, what an amendment changed. Grounded in that document and cited to the section, so you can take the answer into a tutorial and defend it.
Library. Statute reader. Bare acts with amendment history.
Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881
What changed in the 2018 amendment?
Two sections were inserted — interim compensation of up to 20% at trial1, and a deposit condition on appeal2.

§ 03 · Verify
Know whether the case still binds.
Every authority carries its treatment — followed, affirmed, distinguished, overruled — weighted by bench strength. It is the check nobody teaches you to run, and the one that decides whether an argument survives contact with a bench.

Bench-weighted — a single-judge line can’t quietly disrupt a larger bench.
The same corpus and the same verification practising advocates rely on — you’re not learning on a stripped-down student edition.
